CONSTRUCTION:
3) BOOK COVERS: Cover one side of chipboard with permanent adhesive, making sure that adhesive is right up against all edges of the rectangle.
Attach corresponding-size patterned paper over adhesive. Turn chipboard over, and cover back side in the same way. Paper the other cover in the same way. 4) INSIDE PAGES: Match up 4x8.5” papers and adhere back-to-back, making sure adhesive runs all the way to the edges of papers. Repeat for 4”x9” papers and 4”x9.5” papers.
5) HOLES TEMPLATE: Create a hole-punching template from a 4” wide scrap piece of chipboard. Mark a hole ¼” in from the 4” edge of the cardstock, and ½” in from the long edge. Mark off three more holes at the 1.5”, 2.5”, and 3.5” marks. Use hole punch to create holes at each of the four marks. Use template to punch evenly-positioned holes on one 4” edge of each cover and each inside page.
6) Ink edges of each cover and page with desired colors by dragging Distress Ink Pads directly along each edge.
7) Place pages on top of each other, longest on the bottom, making sure holes are aligned.
8) Thread each hole with two 8” cuts of ribbon, one blue and one gold. If ribbon resists threading, try making holes a little larger or using a tapestry (wide-eyed) needle to thread the ribbons.
9) Tie ribbons, leaving some slack for turning pages, and trim edges if they have frayed during threading.
10) COVER: Use Dymo label to create words “our”, “where”, “the”, “is” in green and “heart” in red. Color Zsiage chipboard letters by inking in Fired Brick Distress Ink, then filling in white spots with Scattered Straw ink or a similarly colored marker. Note: not all brands of chipboard lettering will take ink well without surface preparation. Zsiage will. If you use a different brand and the ink beads up on yours, sand lightly or cover with gesso and let dry, then apply the ink. Adhere the word “home” to the front cover as shown. (I adhered over a strip of fine weave Magic Mesh) and place “our” label in front of it. Place additional dymo words as shown, one on each page-step. Page corners can be created with Dottie Ann Magic Mesh, and additional trim can be adhered by the ribbon ties if desired. This completes the basic book construction…everything now is embellishment!
